Before your appointment you will need to complete an extensive medical history and family history. To ensure the most accurate risk assessment, you should have family members give you detailed cancer histories including type of cancer, age at diagnosis, and cause of death, if applicable. Whenever possible, you should obtain the medical records to confirm this information. Examples of records to obtain would be pathology reports, autopsy reports, and any additional information pertaining to that individual’s cancer diagnosis.
Your first office visit will include a medical and family history and a physical examination by our Nurse Practitioner. An individualized plan will be developed, as well as strategies to lower your risk. This may include frequent cancer screening tests, changes in diet and lifestyle, cancer prevention medications, genetic testing, clinical trials, and education to reduce cancer risk.
If you are having an emergency, please call 911. If you have an urgent problem, we have a physician on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can reach the physician by calling the office number, (301) 662-8477. After regular office hours, the physician on call will return your call as soon as possible.
